Want To Protest SOPA? Here’s How With WordPress.com!
Today, January 18th 2012, there are many sites around the globe (including WordPress and Wikipedia) protesting the SOPA and PIPA US legislations. Although I don’t reside in the US, I feel very strongly against these legislations, so I’ve decided to black out MyTutorialz from 8am to 8pm EST (1pm to 1am, Thursday 19th January 2012 GMT). I’ve been able to do this through a new settings pane WordPress.com users now have in their Settings page.
If you want to protest against the legislations, here’s how to do it!
- Log into your WordPress.com blog.
- Head to the Settings page.
- Under the Settings menu, you will see a new sub-menu “Protest SOPA/PIPA” – click this.
- From here, you can choose to either show just a ribbon on your site, or both a ribbon and a full blog blackout – this is the option I’ve gone for. You can also choose to not partake in the protest (this is selected by default).
- If you chose to go for the full blackout, you can choose to customise the text shown and save.
- The full blackout will then be shown from 8am to 8pm EST and the ribbon will show until January 24th 2012.
You can preview what your blog will look like before the blackout by heading to: http://YOURBLOG.wordpress.com/?blackout_preview=full
